Privyet!

Valentine Sinitsyn, the main man at Linux Format Russia, recently flew in to LXF Towers to sample the local beer exchange ideas and do some sightseeing, and left me with one particularly memorable quote about how long LXF Russia subscribers have to wait for their issues: "our postal service is a bit like the UDP protocol." And you Australians thought you had it bad when waiting for your copies to arrive!

Our Italian and Greek licensees were also there, but I was too busy trying to get some decent beer from the bar. Why secluded locations in countryside England insist on serving beer in ice-cold bottles is beyond me...

In Soviet Russia Linux opens you!

Call me an unsophisticated

Call me an unsophisticated North American, but beer in ice cold bottles is refreshing! Especially on a hot day. My guess is they are going for tourists.

It is actually cool that they get the editors of all the LXF's together.

Ice cold beer has its place,

Ice cold beer has its place, like chilled cider. But I prefer it when there's some variety so that I can actually choose!

> Ice cold beer has its

> Ice cold beer has its place, like chilled cider.

My guess then it's some kind of universal equilibrium law, because I was unable to find chilled cider in south London despite my best attempts to do so - all bottles and cans were softly warm :)

Warm beer is a very British

Warm beer is a very British tradition :)
Cold ale is often almost tasteless.
What the Americans call "beer" we call "Lager".
Often Lager is undrinkable when too warm, the chill deadens the tastebuds :P

Chilling Ale is like chilling red wine.
Lager, like white wine, should be chilled.

Beer, lager, cider and white

Beer, lager, cider and white wine should only be consumed when below 7°C. ;-)

> Chilling Ale is like

> Chilling Ale is like chilling red wine.

Absolutely. And guess what - they were serving Old Speckled Hen cold. Don't want to say it was tasteless though. :)

Sorry, but I have to say

Sorry, but I have to say that a pint of Spotty Chicken should be slightly chilled in my opinion. Ideally looking over a valley whilst reclining in a steamer chair.
