Syncro Soft Announces New Release of Oxygen XML Editor version 15.0

Release date: June 10, 2013

Syncro Soft, the developer of the Oxygen XML suite of products, announced the immediate availability of version 15.0 of its Oxygen XML Editor, Oxygen XML Author and Oxygen XML Developer products containing a comprehensive set of tools supporting all the XML related technologies.

oXygen XML Editor 15.0 streamlines the development of web services with major improvements to its WSDL editing support which now features intelligent search and refactoring actions, hierarchy and dependencies views, context-aware editing assistance and support for generating documentation. There are also improvements in working with XML databases and in the validation support.
When authoring XSML content, you benefit from the improvements to the reviewing support, allowing you to easily find changes or annotations across all your project files. The power of XML is leveraged by providing built-in transformation from DITA and DocBook to mobile-friendly WebHelp that allows your users to access your content from their mobile devices.
There are many additions to the DITA functionality, including the integration of "The DITA Style Guide" by Tony Self, which provides immediate access to the relevant style guide topic depending on the current editing context.
As usual, oXygen keeps you up-to-date and we updated a number of components to better support XSLT, XQuery, XPath, XProc, EPUB, SVN, DocBook, TEI and DITA standards.

I agree with EFF because that's exactly what it's intended to do.

The questions are:
will browsers agree to implement it?
will hackers find a way round it?
what are the best strategies to frustrate it?

I happen to believe that, in the long run, it will be frustrated. But I don't know how much pain it is going to cause in the short term and which of the many strategies one might use against it is likely to be the most effective.
Yes, this is an area for copyright not patent.

With a patent you are registering/protecting a tangible object tht does something. Copyright protects the specific expression of an idea.

For example, Edgar Allen Poe's 'Murders in the Rue Morgue' is frequently cited as the first detective novel (Wilkie Collins' fans claim 'The Woman in White').

If patents can be applied to an idea in software, why not in a novel? In which case nobody else would be allowed to write a detective novel without paying fees to Poe's estate.

This is what the Americans have done to software with the ridiculous application off patents to something that was sufficiently protected by copyright - especially as the US led the way with their Mickey Mouse extension to the life of copyright while Cliff Richard et al are trying to extend it ludicrously here as well.

Really? While the joke is mildly amusing (as indeed was the US government's published decision not to fund its own Death Star), I don't think it's worth even £1, let alone the £10 or more that 715 people (at the time of writing) have offered. Bizarre.
Personally, I'd be worried that there might just be enough idiots out there to reach the £20,000,000 target, and then I'd be out of pocket.

I still can't believe that a computer with 1GB of RAM is considered "old". When I think of what I did with 2MB on my Amiga 1200...

Maybe this just means that I'm getting old
Woohoo! Linux Mint ideas page. A month ago I asked:

"Could we please have Gimp 2.8 in the repos.

I've had to reinstall a few times recently and had to add an external repo to get it. Ta."

Today this idea was changed from "under review" to "implemented"! Sweet.
