Not sure, but I think you can change the USB storage setting on the tablet.
I know that my tab2 only works when configured as a camera.

Hi

I have just bought a refurbished Samsung Galaxy 7+ tablet. I have downloaded the manual (pdf) and am learning about it. The problem I have is with the Pc to Tbalet interface via the USB cable. According to the manual it should see it as an external drive but it sees it as a camera.
I ran lsusb-v and got the following information if this helps.
