Using SSH and xdialog (or zenity or kdialog) you could pop up a window saying "You should be on your way to school now". You could even run this from a cron job to nag them automatically

Even better: use secure keys to set up a trusted connection and you can skip logging in altogether

However, shutting down the machine will have them realise that you control their laptops quite quickly, so I'd suggest to shut down whatever application they're using instead. At least initially, if that doesn't work, a shutdown would be in order...

configure & start sshd on the remote box and not only can you execute remote cli commands on it but you can log into it too.

It's considered a bad idea (security wise) to allow root ssh access so this is usually disabled but you can log into your personal account and then su or sudo.

Have a look for a howto for installing/configuring ssh.

Can I send a command via CLI from one computer to another if I have the admin password? If so, how?

What I intend to do with it...

When the kids are being slow to move because they're watching Doctor Who on their laptops, no matter how often I shout them they don't move. The second they encounter a problem, however, they're right next to me to solve it. I can sneakily shut their machines down remotely and have them come to me...
