Yes it is a wireless USB dongle. It shows up alongside the onboard wireless adaptor in the network manager applet, each has an on/off toggle by it, so you can pick either or none (if you want to use the ethernet port for some reason).

I've done search as you advised. There are around six USB adapters compatible with Maya. Are they likely to work with nadia too?

I have an atheros based USB stick that works fine with Mint14, as I can't disable the onboard wifi chip in the BIOS, I just select the USB device in Mint's network manager and disable the onboard wifi from there.

I think the driver thing is a bit beyond my skill-set at the moment.

With an adapter/dongle is it a case of inserting to the usb slot(Mint compatible of course) and it picks up the wi-fi from my bt hub? would I need to install anything for it? It's not really a long term solution I think, but I will mainly be using the laptop in my house so it would be ok for the meantime.

inxi -i tells me this about my satellite:

Network: Card-1: Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller driver: r8169

Same driver and I believed the driver was the problem. I won't argue with Rhakios though my wifi is working fine now.

Strange... My wife's old Toshiba equium had no such problems with Mint 11... Not tried Mint 14 yet with it.

It seems to depend on the chipset used, those Realtek chips with 802.11n ability seem to cause the most problems.

Last year I had problems with my toshiba satellite's wifi, it connected ok but dropped connections which could only be restored by rebooting. I also believed that the problem was the realtek driver.
I compiled and installed a driver I downloaded from the site and thereafter no probs. I work with linuxmint 13 so don't know if 14 is a problem.

I can scratch one of the list...

I was getting nowhere fast with Thunderbird, so I installed good old Evolution, it seems to work for me. I done a manual install and it worked no problem.

I may go back to Thunderbird at a later date and remove then reinstall and start from scratch again, just because it irritates me that I couldn't get it...

I had a look at the Thunderbird Help and I couldn't see anything there.

I'll try the BTYahoo Help. maybe something will come up there.

I entered the username as my email add and my BT password but it suggest one is wrong when neither is?

As for the Mint Forum, I'm using the trackpad on the laptop and have never used one before, but i'll be damned if I can drag those words heheh !

The Java is enabled.

Thanks, I've plenty to get on with! ( I'm dealing with the posts one by one as I can't select to copy and paste either)
