If it's just those blasted fortune-cookies in terminal that you want rid of, you can easily do it by commenting out the line in the hidden .bashrc file.

I can't remember if it is your user's .bashrc or root's .bashrc, but it is in one or the other, or maybe both.

                                      I did a sudo apt-get install mintsystem (seems to have fixed the weirdness), and am currently doing the mint-meta-kde just to be sure.
mintsystem does more, but you may have also uninstalled other packages. Upon further thought, I'd recommend you reinstall the package mint-meta-kde to ensure your Linux Mint KDE is complete.

                                      isn't mint-fortune the thing that prints out a pointless (IMHO) little fortune cookie type message? If so and it's the only problem you're seeing then I would be inclined to

Code:

sudo touch /usr/bin/mint-fortune && sudo chmod a+x /usr/bin/mint-fortune

however as xenopeke says it may be a symptom of other problems.

                                      That can happen if you removed some dependencies (like cowsay, fortune, fortunes-husse, or their dependencies), but that wouldn't be good. /usr/bin/mint-fortune comes from the mintsystem package, which has some adjustments you want on Linux Mint I gather. So I'd install the mintsystem package again if I was you.
