Look in the options menu of Photorec, you can select the types of file you want it to recover. On some file types it's better to retrieve it from other media (anything related to the OS, primarily) rather then trying to recover it, spending serious time and at some risk of further recovery tasks going haywire....

Just to let you know:
I removed the NAS drive from enclosure and attached to computer and plugged in a 80Gig USB drive - managed to recover over 8000 images, just over 12Gig.

Some of the images are photos, wallpapers, CD and DVD covers. So using F-Spot to organise the images based on Exit information.

Will still need a bigger hard drive to recover other files, music and films etc

My Iomega Drive isn't the Cloud edition though there is a link on the page you suggested for the "cloudless" version of the drive.

So whatever I do, I'll have to dismantle the drive.

I've tried Photorec on a drive I wiped on purpose and recovered some videos but with random "f" names - which doesn't matter. When the drive that the files were being recovered to ran out of space Photorec asked for a new location.

The drive/shares was not showing on the network, rebooted and all files disappeared apart from the root folders/shares.

Testdisk and Photorec need low level access to the drive, you can't do this over a network, unless you can run them on the NAS itself.

Before you do anything else, can you SSH into the NAS as root to confirm that your files really are gone and not no longer visible via the shares?

Think you'll need more space, at least to the amount you had used on your nas.

Was the wipe user error ? Have a 2tb version myself.

My Iomega NAS drive has been wiped, only showing the root folders.

It looks like PhotoRec and TestDisk are the tools needed for the job.

Do I have to removed the drive from it's enclosure and connect to computer/laptop,
or can I leave it connected to router and recover that way
or can I connect directly via direct ethernet connection?

PhotoRec / TestDisk recovers files to the drive run from (or selected drive), now here's a problem, NAS drive 1TB, but my laptop is 60GB and computer 160GB.
So can I select/limited the number of files recover (if they can be recovered).
