Perhaps this is where you got the idea, but check out the September Issue of "cpu computer power user." The cover is "Build Your Own Notebook PC." Beyond that, all I'd say is check every peripheral against the Linux compatability tables.

Probably best to check Linux On Laptops for advice on which works best for you. For what it's worth I use an Averatec 6220 with 512Mb RAM, AMD Sempron 2400+ and 60Gb HDD. It's fine for what I want to do on it (coding Java, vector graphics, html etc) but if you want to play games it would be *very* poor. I get about 2 hours out of it and it's 2.68Kg, and 2.5 cms thick, so that gives some idea of dimensions and weight. Nelz I ask ASUS and they told me some of them can be exchange the CPU.
I will get ASUS or ACER notebook because I don`t know where to get to parts to build myown laptop.Any Idea which one is good for linux ASUS or ACER?.

If you want to be able to upgrade the CPU, choose a motherboard that lets you do so. This question is best directed at the suppliers of the various motherboards you are interested in.

If not that`s why I like to build my own and later time that I can upgrade CpU.
I like a big powerful one that`s fine with me because,if I`m get
AS5002WLMi-AMD Turion64 1.6ghz can I upgrade the cpu can I?

I`m looking for small and it can be heavy or light with good battery life. A "desktop replacement" laptop and that I can run linux on not windowz,with AMD 64,512 mb ram,harddrive 60gb,a good sound card,motherboard,DVD-+RW,widescreen 17"
and power supply.
Of course that I can use at home and later time that I can upgrade the hardware like CPU,ram....

What sort of laptop do you want? One that's small and light with good battery life. A "desktop replacement" laptop? What do you want to use if for? Where do you want to use it? Choosing a laptop is so much more involved that a desktop. Building your own just adds to the choices.

I don't know of any DIY laptop hardware - the cases and motherboards are all pretty specialist and specific to the manufacturer. The only common things between most laptops are the memory, processor and harddrive. Everything else has to be made and/or bought to spec.

I`m looking for hardware to build a laptop computer and I know one store in vancouver have the new parts for laptop so whichmotherboard,cpu....so that I can upgrade later on.
But that will not overheat CPU,motherboard...
