This is the sort of thing that happens when the CPU overheats as well !.
What about just using 1 CPU at a time ?.

look out for the ultimate boot disk it has all sorts of diagnostic tools

You might also want to look at the PSU, it is not supplying enough current (or regulated enough, especially in Dual CPU situations) the machine will reboot to protect itself. The 12V+5V currents are very important in a modern PC as the CPU's power is stepped down from the 12V power section and most other logic is powered by the 5V line.

This one came up on a mailing list earlier today. Search http://freshmeat.net for "stress test" to find some possible programs. One of the results of this search is Stress Linux, a live CD for hardware testing.

I have a Linux server that is failing. It hangs or reboots itself randomly. I'm pretty sure I've eliminated disk errors as the cause because it fails even when booting Knoppix. I've also swapped memory around and given it all a good clean without any improvement.

Everything else is onboard (SCSI, IDE, VGA) so I think I'm left with the motherboard or a CPU (dual) causing the problem.

I'd like to run a hardware diagnostic tool on it. Preferably a bootable one. The only one I know is PC Check which is a few hundred pounds - and I'll get that if I have to - but I was wondering if there were any open source solutions out there?
