Our electronic fob-controlled doors at work automatically unlock when the emergency bell (can't call it a fire bell, as it's not solely for fires ) is activated. Up until last year though, this wasn't the case until powers that be were made aware.

When I was a civil servant, many eons ago, we all got memos for three weeks about the fire drill, so when it happened we were all assembled by the doors waiting for it to go off so we could go down the pub

I would have thought so, I would imagine all doors and lifts unlock upon the fire bell. But then is that a security risk.
I didn't ask anyway, I just got the server installed and setup and went home

Its good to know that in a clients building I was in Wednesday which is in Kensignton you need a keyfob to get into the fire exit stairwell (and pretty much every room and lift in the building), and they don't give visitors keyfobs

At least you can hear the fire alarms - the last three tests at work this year I didn't hear from my server room (and yes it has been reported all three times that I haven't heard the fire alarm!).

I was think more of getting 8 floors worth of people to leave the building when they know the alarm is only a test.

We call 911 and say "No, really, there is a fire we were testing but there is a fire" or suffer a horrible death. That might be more peaceful at this point

Not only have they been using jack hammers all week to tear up the sidewalk around the building, they are testing the fire alarms today.

They have to test from every manual alarm pull station. We are in an 8 floor building.
