already gave me the answer with his incomplete reply...

M$, the miserable bl**ders, removed SNDREC32.EXE from
Vista and completely broke my Python "clr.py" code so I
am gonna have to change the "beep" section in it for the
Command Line 2.x versions to...

print chr(7)

OR for crappy Python 3.x...

print(chr(7))

Interesting. I installed Windows 98 and Linux on the same machine in 2000 and by the end of the year Windows had crashed irretrievably three times and crashed less badly on a number of other occasions; Linux hadn't crashed at all in the same time on the same machine even though, after three months, I was using Linux more often than Windows because the software was so much better for what I wanted to do.

"MODE.COM" exists in both C:\Windows\System32\ and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ in Windows 7 64-bit. "rundll32.exe" also exists in both C:\Windows\System32\ and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ so how "64-bit" the OS is I'm not really sure. There are also files like "RunLegacyCPLElevated.exe" which raises some eyebrows in wonder. Why is there a "kernel32.dll" in C:\Windows\System32\ and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ when this is the 64-bit version?

Having said this, Windows 7 is the best OS released by Microsoft since Windows 98. Windows XP is the best post SP1 OS released by Microsoft but I think Windows 7 has already passed this with the 3 monthly patches released so far.

searching the folder gives "mode" an app, and "Microsoft Windows Common Drivers Package" x 2.

Nothing "MODE.COM" tho.

Does Windows 7 still have "MODE.COM", probably in the......

C:\Windows\System32\

......folder?
