Well, they say Americans don't "get" irony, and I guess this proves it.

MS have really lost the plot, and it seems to have occurred since Ballmer took over. They just keep on getting it wrong and having to play catch-up. In the past that wasn't a problem because those they were trying to catch up to were small fry and easily gobbled up (or driven under) by the Microsoft behemoth.

The problem for MS is that they took their eyes off the ball and didn't notice that the battle was moving from the desktop to the Web. When they finally did notice it was too late. Google owned the web and was a very big fish indeed.

There's also MS's failure in the mobile market. Ballmer, famously, ridiculed the iPhone, while Google realised its potential (as did Palm, Nokia and a few others). The upshot is that, in the smartphone stakes, Windows mobile is now, comparatively, a very poor excuse for a mobile operating system and far behind the likes of the iPhone, Google's Android, Palm's WebOS and the latest Symbian offerings. Again MS is behind the curve and, again, the competition (well, apart from Palm) are very big fish indeed.

And MS does what any bully does when confronted by an even bigger kid......
"Government competition agencies are increasingly focused
on Google’s growing power in search and online advertising."
