Hmm, don't know about that, but while I've used Navigation and Maps and so on without problems, I don't play games. I suppose games might well hammer the thing harder. I also have no idea if spontaneous reboot might introduce other problems.
Still, it's not good.
It does get quite warm under load and when recharging, but as yet it hasn't had any adverse effects.
So was I. The problem first occurred when I was playing Command and Conquer Red Alert on a PSX emulator. It just rebooted mid game, it rebooted and then rebooted again. I took the battery out, let it cool then left it and went to sleep.

Then, I tried to use Navigation, it did the same thing then too.

My Desire was previously branded, so although the firmware was HTC official, the innards of my Desire might be different.

Just to let you know, since I upgraded my phone started to reboot itself when using Navigation. It appeared to be getting too hot and resetting. I then downgraded back to 2.1 and it appeared to no longer reboot as often, but I could still make it reboot.

I'm going to be sending it back to HTC once I put the original firmware back on it with the T-Mobile branding. Apparently others have had this issue. Saying that, I've also noticed people overclocking the HTC Desire with no apparent problems, so we'll see.

It will mean I'll be without my phone for a few weeks though

[Here I am back after finally getting Audacity to record streaming audio in Ubuntu 10.04. What a struggle that was. It took me two whole days scouring the Net and reading solution after solution, none of which worked for me, but persistence paid off and I eventually stumbled across the one which did.]

Rhakios

I hesitate to further prolong the discussion here but no, I’m not saying that Windows 7 Home Premium is just a trial demo, but you knew that anyway, didn't you! What I’m trying to say, although not very well, is that there are many programs which have light (moderately priced) and full (more expensive) versions, eg Photoshop Elements/Photoshop CS.

If you look at the Windows 7 versions, realistically most people (and by that I mean home users, like me) are going to settle for the Home Premium version as the alternatives are either too basic or more directed at the business market, but the other options are there for those who want them. As for being ripped off [ollie], I see nothing wrong with MS making available six (I think it is) flavours of 7, with prices ranging from c. £100 for Home Premium to c. £170 for Professional or Ultimate (current Amazon prices).

It’s all a matter of deciding how much you want something and then whether you are prepared/can afford to pay for it. I ummed and ahhed for years over the full version of Photoshop. I really, really wanted it but decided it was just too expensive. Then last year, Adobe offered it to me for half-price and I went for it. And I have no regrets. It is a fantastic program and, yes, even at half-price it was expensive but I get enormous enjoyment out of using it which is what matters to me.

I look at iPads ranging from £430 - £700, and am glad I have no use whatsoever for one but, if I did, I would not think twice about buying one.

Perhaps we had better just agree to disagree and let the original topic continue unhindered.

But as Microsoft has already developed all of the software that goes into Windows, it doesn't actually cost them any more to give you a version with all of the features, rather than a restricted set.

A couple of years ago when I bought a Dazzle DVC 100 (an adaptor for attaching a VHS recorder to a computer) it came with a trial version of Studio Plus 10 software. I later went on line and paid to activate the full version of the software. So, following your argument, as Pinnacle had already developed all the software, they should simply have provided the full version straight out of the box with the Dazzle adaptor?

So you're saying that Windows 7 Home Premium is just a trial demo to get you to pay for the Ultimate edition?
If you'd had to pay for the trial software, then you'd be making a fair comparison, as it is, I think you're not.

Android... future... ooh! (trying to keep my posts on topic).

The reason this is veering off topic is that no one seems able to post anything Linux related without somewhere along the line making an adverse comment about Windows, which just occasionally (depending on the mood I am in) prompts me to chip in with a gentle response.

That is my point. There is no reason why it should not be that simple to install alternate operating systems on Android (in particular) phones, yet most manufacturers seek to prevent it.

AFAIK, the only manufacturer doing this is Motorola. Many of the providers want to lock you at a particular version, because it makes their life easier, but that's not much different from the likes of PC World only supporting you if you run the original OS that came with your PC. What Motorola have done is the equivalent of a laptop maker adding code that wipes the hard disk if you boot from a Linux CD.
