CentOS is really a server distro and not optimised for the desktop. It also uses RPMs - all pluses if you want industry (RHEL) relevant experience, a pain otherwise.

Of your list I'd suggest either Fedora if you want reasonably bleeding-edge or Debian if you incline more towards stability.
Tough choice this once as I use both Debian (for my old PVR and my miniature server) and CentOS (my main PC).

But then knowing both does help you out a bit (when I eventually start making packages for both).
If you don't like Unity, you can still log into the classic gnome desktop in Natty. So, if you're comfortable with Ubuntu, Unity is not a reason to switch when Natty comes out. And that's probably going to be true of Natty+1 - Odoriferous Owl, or whatever it's going to be called.

And don't write Unity off just yet. There's an awful lot of FUD and ignorant drivel being spouted about Unity all over the place. Ignore the Maverick version of Unity - it's moved on from there. The Natty version is still in Alpha and some things haven't been implemented yet. I'm testing Natty Unity on my 24" monitor and it makes surprising sense on a large screen. I believe it's going to work well. And not forgetting that there is a port of Unity to Fedora being worked on.

I vote for Debian because that is where the most famous Distro derive from and also maybe you can come out with your own Distro. But I also suggest to go for NetBSD that come with issue 141.

I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop (broken) and 10.10 on my netbook. I'm planning on installing a different version of Linux when my new PC comes in a couple of days. I'm not enamoured with the Unity desktop and so...

Here are the options I'm considering and why...

Mint. I've tried it before but always switched back to Ubuntu. My main concern is that it might go the Ubuntu way in a year or two as well.

Fedora. I can get some RPM experience plus have a friend who uses it who might be able to offer advice.

I also may consider some formal linux training in the future, so these are on my possibility list as well.

Debian.

CentOS.

Both are similar but not the same to Ubuntu and Fedora, but are more rooted in what I might find in the business world.
