My Father-in-Law has asked me to encode some of the family home videos (on VHS tapes) and transfer them to DVD. Have no problem with the software side but from lots of previous experience, I know that encoder chipsets have a nasty habit of changing (even on the same model).
Anyone have any recommendations for good hardware to buy (compatibility wise, this is only composite capture, so not exactly studio quality A-D requirements).
I have found the Dazzle DVD Recorder (Maplin Code: A84FT) which seems to be supported in the Kernel now?

Always used Firewire before now, oh and running OpenSuse 12.1 BTW.
