Bodhi Linux looks and sounds great.
Heard Galpon Minino for the 1st time, so will look into it.
I didn't know Puppy has a Ubuntu version.

So, thank you all. It's nice to get variety of suggestions to try and learn.

Also look at Puppy-Ubuntu (I think from a recent LXF coverdisk?) as it appears to have a very small footprint but does access mainstream Debian/Ubuntu applications.

Galpon Minino is built on Debian and will run on a 64Mb machine using around 1.5Gb hard disk space.
