What is the GPU itself? What is the PSU, and what is it rated at? (On 12v rail(s) etc?) If you've added new drives and a problem has appeared, it may suggest that when loaded there isn't quite enough power where there used to be.

If you took the HDD addition as an opportunity to update drivers too, that may have caused it.

I think it might be a windows problem. Running Fallout New Vegas under wine runs for about an hour before crashing - about normal for FNV!

You could try and recreate it - try running glxgears in a terminal or 3

If you can't then I'd say software...

It is probably an overheating graphics card but it is worth checking that your PSU is able to handle the load attached to it. Have a look through the vents to see if any of the capacitors are "doming" on top or oozing anything from the top.

Overheating? Is there a temperature sensor on your graphics card that you can monitor whilst playing the games?

Which graphics card is it? Is there a known overheating problem?

Ok, I'm using windows for the games, but still it's a problem.

I've just dusted the PC and cleared the fans and vents when I fitted 2 new hard drives. I find it crashes playing Fallout New Vegas and Batman Arkham Asylum after a few minutes, but can play angry birds for hours.

I know fallout is unstable, but I never had a problem with Batman before.

I suspect it's a problem with my graphics card, but could do with advice.

Oh, and Linux doesn't crash!
