The installation of Fedora 17 from DVD 160 to a number of laptops has high lighted a problem - 2 broken packages - namely Setup and Filesystem. Correcting the errors using Synaptic resulted in an unusable OS, as it wiped out dozens of packages.

The problems only became evident when I installed LibreOffice 3.5.7, all the icons appeared as expected but I couldn't get any component of LO 3.5.7 to load. Investigation the problem resulted in the discovery of the 2 broken packages.
Fedora 17 was performing OK up to that point, although it wasn't used too much.

Has any one had the same experience?

Is Fedora 17 on DVD 160 defective?

This problem has appeared on a live DVD from Fedora, exactly the same broken packages. Comment made on Fedora forum.
