Incidently, did you here about our 'King Leonard' of the Hut River Kingdom ....

It actually exists in Western Australia, he was the Mayor, but declared himself King around the late '70's to mid '80's sometime. And then declared war on the Crown via a letter to our Governor General. Seems there is an old statute that says, if the Grown doesn't respond to a declaration of war, then it has conceded defeat.

He eventually, got himself arrested going through customs in New York. His passport had his occupation listed as sovereign, and the passport was a fully fledged Hut River Kingdom version (grin).

He did manage to get, i think, a half page article in the N.Y. Times, that also discussed Hut River, pointing out its' aspects as a tourist destination. And the charges were all dropped of course.

How could the Americans prosecute someone who claimed to be King by right of winning the Hut River war of Independence in the early '80's ...

Besides, do you know how much advertising costs in the N.Y. Times (grin) ...

The guy is a true genius

It's not that extreme. it's not as though he was using something really dangerous (not to mention un-American) like www.fsf.org

But wasn't the point, the use of the url as a user name. In that it pointed to a group associated with extremist political activities. And so gave a portal to those ideas. With the balancing point that any url used, either as part of a name or a sig does a similar thing. In that it points to a site that will likely be themed along some idea set. Which leads into the debate of personal rights, freedom and such, ... That was my meaning at least by 'A can of worms'.

Ignoring issues don't make them go away and as RMS says ... geeks may think they can ignore politics, but politics wont ignore them ....

Wouldn't be surprised if that was quoted incorrect, but something like that.

Unfortunately you have to accept this as part of the freedoms (diminishing) of our society.
That people replied to the posts of this user is another matter though.
