Edit KDE Menu Editor -> add new Item
name it Kcontrol and put in the field "Command" : kcontrol
, choose a nice icon and save !
Done, Kcontrol is back in KDE menu

Yeah, I'm not to sure about the system icon, (just installed the latest Mandriva with 3.4 - club members only) I like everything being in 'home' but now when I browse up...argh!!

So good idea for windows people...my parents would love it!! But I might have to get use to using it...or go back to 3.3?!?
Try a desktop shortcut to kcontrol or kinfocenter, they're the nearest to a windows-type 'System' icon.

                                      re: the system Icon

Unfortunately, in the version Im running, it appears a little bug means it requires a bit more faff than it should.

1. Right click on desktop, select [create new] --> [Link to Location (URL)]
2. Enter URL as system:
3. Click OK
4. Right Click on newly created icon, select [Propertues]
5. Change URL to be system:/
6. Click OK, and it should be fine.

Not sure what you mean by system icon, but the easiest way to get a Home icon on your desktop is to drag it off the K menu onto the desktop and select Copy. Or, create a desktop shortcut that uses the command
kfmclient openProfile filemanagement
so long as your home directory is the default for that profile it will always open in your home directory.
