I would like to install http://www.darktable.org/ and have successfully done so on a VM version of my main O/S (Scientific Linux SL6 64bit).
When trying to install on my main system it fails with:
darktable-0.9.3-1.fc14.x86_64 requires libjpeg.so.62(LIBJPEG_6.2)(64bit)
I am using the Koji repo and fc14 version.
The problem is that libjpeg IS installed.
I am unable to remove 'libjpeg' (to try a new install) as the error message is 'The package PackageKit is essential to correct operation and cannot be removed using this tool.'! Tried to remove with Yum and it wants to rip out the whole system.
Trying to install 'libjpeg' or 'Libjpeg-turbo' gives the following:
1:cups-libs-1.4.2-44.el6.i686 requires libjpeg.so.62
jasper-libs-1.900.1-15.el6_1.1.i686 requires libjpeg.so.62
cprint-core-en-1.0-0.i386 requires libjpeg.so.62
gtk2-2.18.9-4.el6.i686 requires libjpeg.so.62
libtiff-3.9.4-1.el6_0.3.i686 requires libjpeg.so.62

I have checked in /usr/lib and /usr/lib64 and libjpeg.so.62 is there along with symlinks for libjpeg.so and libjpeg.so.62.0.0
I have changed permissions on these to no avail, tried different repos everything I can think of.
I would appreciate any thoughts as I am nearly resigned to rebuild the whole system which includes my Myth TV setup and over 500Mb of films.
Many thanks in advance
John

The install info on the dark table site might be useful

http://www.darktable.org/install/#fedora

and then add the repositories they given and then install. Won't this sort out any problematic dependencies ?

Hi David,
That repo seems to be for the nightly builds. It is assumed that if installing on Fedora it is in the Fedora repository and a straightforward 'yum install darktable'
All dependencies have been installed it is just 'libjpeg' that is the problem. Libjpeg IS installed but for some reason not being seen. As mentioned in original post Ihave succesfully installed on a VM version of the o/s so I know it can be done. I can only think that something else on the system is somehow 'blocking' the install. I have now backed up everything and going to take more drastic action.

If you're sure all the dependencies really are met and you still want to give it a whirl, probably the best option is to grab it from the repos manually and install with
rpm -i --nodeps darktable.x.y.z.rpm
If it doesn't run, then you'll know there really is a dependency problem. If it does run, then it's not a problem Wink

Hi Rhakios,
Many thanks for your reply. As I had taken a day off work the 'Drastic action' mentioned in my last post has now been carried out. I have nearly finished rebuilding and Darktable is working. MythTV, my other main program, is installed and still to be configured. Where I think, but by no means sure, the problem might have been Adobe Acrobat. I have left this out at present and will use 'Evince' in the meantime.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to look at this post.

Indeed, I've felt no need for Adobe's pdf reader for a couple of years now. If I have to check a document for compatibility, I do so on Mac or Windows as I have found that even when running Acroread on Linux it doesn't render documents the same way as on other platforms.
