over usb?
Copying videos from nas that has decided to reset its settings but has nicely formatted the hard drive(s) with ext3
So I want to plug nas hdd into myth box via sata->usb adaptor I have.
So what would be the quickest way to copy over this data. Ideally I would be able to set it off in the background but check its progress every now and then
So rsync, cp or Ctrl-C Ctrl-V from desktop (Thunar file manager) _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Elseways, everyone would know where it was |

Can you just drag and drop in thunar? Actually, I think rsync may be easiest, and can be left to run in the background where you can check occasionally. _________________ Ubuntu 10.04 user, and loving it! |

Any way that you copy 160Gb over USB is going to take a while.
At least it will complete, which would be dubious on windows drag'n drop. _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

Stick with rsync, because you can restart the transfer if needed. The hardware will be the speed limit here, not the software you choose, but rsync is the most reliable of the alternatives, and gives the most faithful copies. _________________ Unix is user-friendly.
