To start with, I am running Ubuntu 11.10 using Firefox 12.0 for Internet browsing.

On some websites with videos embedded, the video will not show at all unless I choose to download the video (an example of this is http://games.crossfit.com/video/event-summary-asia-womens-workout-1). On others, like youtube.com, the videos will come up, but play in only a small portion of the screen.

I have tried researching this, but the only thing I can find to explain it is that the originating website may be using different players. Can I fix it so I can see both well? Would the problem on the other still be a problem if I was trying to watch streaming video?

I know there is probably a simple solution, but I am still a nub with computers and totally brand new to Linux type OS.

That site seems to offer a download to me, but plays (up to full screen) using standard FF - not sure what addons/plugins it is using.

I've never tried to get youtube in anything but a small window, as the resolution is so poor.

Are you using gnash instead of flashplugin?

Played ok for me. I am using flashplugin-nonfree. Then again I am using siduction - not ubuntu - but debain based.

Your problem may be related to the latest version of flash causing a lot of problems for many people.

See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1948626 for possible answers, particularly post 80, which gives a link to a download of the most recent working flash plugin.
