Every time I do a clean install of KDE, I spend a decade or so turning off all those annoying sounds for startup / shutdown / empty recycle bin etc.

There's got to be a way of disabling all of them without all that hassle and without losing the ability to hear stuff you want to hear. Any ideas?

In general, it is a good idea to back up the entire ~/.kde4/share/config directory before you reinstall or upgrade KDE.

The sound notifications are saved here

~/.kde4/share/config/kde.notifyrc

So, make sure you back it up when you have it the way you like ahead of the next upgrade etc.

The last one was down to hard drive failure. Unexpected. I didn't expect to lose both my main and secondary drive within a week.
