Linux inspired beer.

Postby Nox » Wed Jul 03, 2013 11:31 am

As an aspiring brewer I look to all sources for inspiration.

Late one insomnia filled night while paging through my copy of "How to Brew" it hit me, I had been ignoring that powerful community driven goodness that is Linux!

So here, for your amusement, and sobriety dis-enhancement, I present- Linux inspired beers:

Arch-Ale
Pear Linux Lambic
Porteus Porter

and of course

Gnu-brew!

Had to leave a Unity brew out, theres not a pot large enough for all the bittering hops...

Cheers!

You do realise that you'd have to open-source your (secret) recipe then ;)

:D I was counting on it! Can't possibly brew enough for everyone by myself! Plus folks will be able to make all the changes they want to their distro... I mean brew...

Torn between Ale - Ale link embedding - and IPA - IPA Pint Acronym.

But you do need a lager. Based on its global popularity I'd suggest Android Lager.

Don't forget that the beers must be ethical too, with no undeclared or non-free ingredients. That is, they must be free as in freedom, though not necessarily free as in beer.

Ok. wtf is IPA? I don't drink anything that's initials only. Except HP sauce, and then not by the pint. With sausages. Or bacon. Or chilli... Ok, bad example.

I ticked Ale since there was no "bitter" listed.

India Pale Ale

Postby AgeGap1 » Wed Jul 03, 2013 9:17 pm

IPA - Ipa's peculiar amber-nectar. 'Trafalgar India Pale Ale' is a good one. I think you can still get it at Morrisons. You can tell it's proper because it has half an inch of sediment in the bottom.

Sorry I left out Bitter but i just couldn't equate freedom to bitter, I'll take it as a write in candidate though. I also didn't put in a Lambic, but thats just because I'm scared to try brewing one...

IPA stands for India Pale Ale, very trendy in the states now with the micro-brew renaissance.

If this post coalesces into in good string of GNU-Brew ideas, I'll brew the batch as the community dictates (I reserve the right to do some debugging) and post tasting notes and pictures.

By the end of the pol, that means a new beer is born in 8 weeks.

They called it IPA because it traveled well for the 1800's it got send to the colonies to keep the troops happy most of it to India hence the name, quite a few breweries here in Canada also shipped to India at that time.

Enjoy the Choice :)
