Not in the 'Fish's' case.

God, I hate it when people call me that! I'm not a troll fishing for attention; it is the last thing I am! Who in their right mind would want to be an attention seeker? I think it's a mental illness. Hmmmm, yes, if I wanted to take the piss, you'd definitely know about it. I just ignore you. Wink Cool l Could never be bothered with putting people in kill files etc on usenet news (does anybody still do that?) when I used to do that; they are so easy to get through though it's not even a challenge......

What, you are a sockpuppet for our beloved 1sf (troll)? Makes a weird kind of sense, I suppose.

What is a sockpuppet and what does 1sf (troll) (troll) mean? Please excuse my ignorance.

Oops.

A "sockpuppet" is a duplicate user account set up by somebody to hide their usual identity.

1sf (troll) is 1slipperyfish (troll), one of our friendly user community given to winding up the unwary - and to bad jokes. Something to do with living under Wigan pier and leaping out to eat people, I believe. Indeed, our admins have grown so upset at losing out to his acute banter that they hacked the system to insert "(troll)" after every mention of his name. And they don't even live in Wigan. To avoid that you have to call him Paul (I mean to avoid inserting "troll", not to avoid living in Wigan). If you re-read the first page of this thread, you will see his comments.

So just to clarify, the "troll" is not you but Paul, and the word is automatically inserted by the system.

My apologies for assuming all this was as familiar to you as to us old lags.

A horse walks into a Linux store.

"Hello" says the assistant, "what are you looking for?"

"Debian stable".

... well, you did ask.

A Linux geek has decided to knit an awful sloppy pullover as a gift to RMS. But every time he knits a piece it starts to unravel, he just cannot get the hang of tying it off. Sitting on a bench in the local zoo one lunchtime, he sees a gnu gesturing with its head, beckoning him over. Intrigued, he wanders over. The gnu leans forward and grabs the knitting in its teeth. With deft movements of its mouth, it quickly ties off all the loose ends.
"Wow," exclaims the geek, "that's amazing!"
"Not really" replies the gnu, "I thought everyone knew that gnus knot you knits."

I like my longstanding custom desktop but it's based on an old distro. I installed the latest version of WINE, but running any of my old Windows (TM) apps crashed my desktop. I solved it by virtualising a more modern distro and using an up-to-date desktop theme. It seems that you can't put new WINE into old skins.
