LXF181 DVD Mint 16

Postby petlon » Sat Feb 08, 2014 3:18 pm

According to the cover, DVD181 should have both 32 and 64-bit Linux Mint 16 but doesn't. Also when running Mint 16 Mate Live I can't login to the LXDE or Cinnamon desktops having logged out. They are shown at the login selection between the language and Power buttons, can be selected, but don't work. Am I missing something? :(

Mint is 32 bit, Fedora is 64 bit. I'll try booting the disc when I can find it.

Found the disc and booted it and both LXDE and Cinnamon were available using the procedure described in the magazine. This is, select the desktop you want and login as user mint with an empty password.

Try using mint instead of mist - it's a typo!!!!!

The missing 64 bit still evades me, anyone found the missing 64 bit Petra? ??

Sorry about the typo, but if you got that far you will have seen the previous sentence that started "This is a 32 bit distro". There is no 64 bit version, only the 32 bit version that runs on both architectures. The disc cover does appear to be somewhat ambiguous on this.

LFX181 32 - 64 bit

Apology accepted, these things happen.
Re the 32/64, most machines run 64 these days. The mag. indeed clearly says 'This is a 32 bit distro' but the disk equally clearly says ' Fedora 20 64-bit . . .
Linux Mint 16 32-and 64-bit (Mate, . . . . '
Never mind, I will see which I like and download the 64 for that should I feel the need.

I assume (well, guess) that the are trying to say that this runs on 32 and 64 bit architecture. I'll try to get some clarity on this on Monday.
