As a recruitment consultant I am increasingly asked to identify experienced LINUX networking specialists for both Permanent & Freelance assignments. The difficulty seems to arise when anything more than standard support skills are required (currently typical of this is a permanent position in Sheffield). When looking for a new role do you technical specialists get frustrated at a) - the lack of variety in the positions on offer and b) the lack of anything other than keyword knowledge from some of us so-called recruitment consultants (realise I have set myself up to be shot down here, however.....!)?

In reply to your post, yes it was incredibly frustrating when trying to find a Linux related job, I have even had one agency ask any ICT skills? I said yes Linux and got whats that then? I know you guys can only offer what jobs are available but you can understand I hardly feel I can trust someone to find me a good job in something they know nothing about. Having said that its not as though you need an indepth knowledge, knowing what is involved is more than enough. Im glad to see a consultant taking an interest in the world of Linux, theres not to many Linux jobs out there that I can see at the moment.

I have never worked with Linux anything on a company, so I can only awnser what I tjink would most anoye me. (Ed. I have never tryed to find a linux job through a consultant, as ther hardly are any here.)

a) as the market is in general in Sweden, can be very anoying, mainly cus most companies here seams to sill feer linux.
Even thouh I actuly think it is about current employies, beeing afraid of it as thay usaly lack the knowlage.

b) Is not so anoying if the "recruitment consultants" is aware and open with it.
Some can apper to be like a 15 year old, Counterstrike player down the Internet Cafe, that thinks he's knows computers, 'cus he wrote a macro. Few things are as anoying as that.

Just to add, "recruitment consultants" here in Sweden, dose not have a good reputation (around me anyhow).
b) is a general awnser for them all together.
Especaly if you dont have a job atm. some of them can treat you like shit,
even though thay most likely not have studyed half the time and areas you have yourself.
Now I dont think you are like that
But all to many are.
