Hello
I was thinking [I am so VERY dangerous when I do that], would it be a good idea to have two Discussion forums - one for linux and FOSS discussion, and another for just general chat?
The benefits are:
* this would help people get to know other LXF members better
* it would keep personal chat out of a dedicated discussion area
* it would give us a place for polls (what's your favourite flavour of pot noodle, your favourite coloured opal fruit/starburst etc.)
Other opinions? _________________

Couldn't you just start a topic on whatever you like within the discussion forum. give it a descriptive title 'O/T: Did anyone see Celebrity Love Island last night?' and wait for the responses...

A Joke forum would be good though (well, just for a laugh hehehe)
So, just to get the 'ol ball a rolling ...

Like "Why do Giraffes have long necks ?"
(Thats an old one with lots of answers, but)
Once there were a bunch of scientists in a lab ... they had a mouse, a hampster
and a Giraffe sitting on a bench, with the intention of discovering a
distinguishing feature ...
They noticed the necks ... ???
and then it dawned .... the Giraffes head was a long long way away from the
rest of its body !

This idea was ripped off from another site, i probably wouldn' have thought of it otherwise

So did anyone see Celebrity Love Island. I thought there was a lovely irony (ITV being ironic?) in that one of the celebrities (who I'd never heard of) couldn't even spell C.E.L.E.B.R.I.T.Y. And one bloke's idea of chatting up a woman went like this:
HIM: "So... where do you think you might like to sleep tonight?"
HER: "In my bed. Why?"
HIM: "Well, yer know, I jus fort ya mite not wanter beerlone aht ere."
HER: "Go away you horrible, horrible little man."
HIM: "Cor, I fink I'm in there."

Oh, and giraffes have long necks because they have long legs. But why do they have long legs? Because their bodies are long way from the ground. <basil-brush>boom boom</basil-brush> |

so just to get it clear this forum is for discussion about linux?

I can see how the second conclusion would directly relate to the observed phenomenon, but the first conclusion does tend to rely on an assumed assosiation (of soughts)... And so probably could be subject to error as a result.
Scientists can't spend millons on a research project, and then start to entertain frivolous assumptions. So ... the association between the legs and the neck will probably need to be investigated somewhat further i think.
(like a few more years of grants further )

Well ... when your all shagged out after a long edit ... and considering that Clowns do Linux too ... And Tux is such a happy looking penquine ...

ok I give in:
Subject: Fw: ''What gender is 'computer'
A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike
English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. ''House'' for
instance, is feminine: ''la casa.'' ''Pencil,'' however, is masculine: "el
lapiz.''
A student asked, ''What gender is 'computer'?''
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups,
male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether
''computer'' should be a masculine or a feminine noun.
Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that ''computer'' should definitely be of the
feminine gender (''la computer''), because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they used to communi cate with other computers are
incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible
later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half
your paycheck on accessories for it.
(No chuckling... this gets better!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine
("el computer''), because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE
the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little
longer, you could have gotten a better model.
The women won.
