I'm after a complete idiot's guide to installing LINUX drivers for a wireless LAN card under Mandriva LE 2005 (from the DVD of this fine publication!).

I've got a Belkin 802.11b card, F5D6020 vers. 2 and, despite chasing lots of links and working through the HowTo in House of Craig, I've had no luck.

Any help gratefuly received!

Thank in advance,
Blemon.

It looks like that WLan card is supported - but only if its the 1st version, http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz

You might have some like with NDISWrapper and the Windows drivers for that card - Though I dont know if NDISWrapper is installed on Mandriva.
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/

Aside from that I can't really help much, but i do hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks, Alex,

I do have some instructions from SourceForge about building a driver based on a chipset-specific file downloaded from them. I've downloaded the file and unpacked it and started following the instructions which, to a point, are clear and make sense. It does, however, talk about compiling kernels and things which, as a noob to Linux, means I'm really not sure where to start and, even though Mandriva takes a fraction of the time to install compared to certain other desktop operating systems, I'd rather not cack things up! That's why I could really do with a guide which will hold my hand through the process!

TIA again,
Blemon

With mandriva, all you need to do for nisdwrapper is this:

Go to control centre, click on network and internet, then setup a network interface. choose wireless connection, and at the next screen choose use windows driver, it will pop up the a box and you must browse to the file, on your driver disk (.ini file). Once this is done, it should be easy to follow to the end..

Good Luck.
