It's really easy to write a program that causes W98SE problems. I have some own-written programs (in Visual Basic) running on my W98SE machine that all contain a similar routine, called when you select Quit from a main working screen, which closes the database and exits the progam. Well, you would have one, wouldn't you? Except that I've found the hard way that writing it straight, without checks, can leave you with a ghost version of the program running in background.
W98SE also creates its own problems by leaving memory management to the program rather than controlling it from the operating system, thus allowing progressive memory leaks. Adobe Exchnage, I've discovered, is a seriously bad offender here. Use that a few times and you quickly run out of memory. |

Hamsters only live 2-3 years. All Windows 3.1 compatible rodents are long dead. Current hamsters require WinXP - except for the really bloated ones that can run Vista _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

I thought Vista required one of those cave trolls from LOTR to power it _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

I don't think I saw 1sf (troll) in LOTR, unless Golem was beating his brains out on a rock _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

it included WindowMaker (24mb is the minimum ram for xfree6) although i suppose icewm and co would work also
Gnome works on a 233 with 64mb, i know that (if uou cut down gnome it runs in about 48mb of ram when idle) |

Yes i found that with my 64 Mb box. K&G both worked quite well, as long as they weren't being used (grin)
