I have a hard drive(hda) with Win98 and Suse 9.2 installed. I also have another hard drive (hdb) onto which I installed Mepis Pro. The problem is that when I boot into Suse it cannot see the other drive but it does see my win98 files. Running dmesg shows that Suse is seeing all the partitions including hdb1 but for some reason I am not able to access it.
Originally each linux distro tried to overwrite the mbr and deleting any reference to the other linux distro. Currently the Suse grub loader gives me Win98 and Suse option and it would be nice if it could also give me the Mepis option as well. Because of this tendency to overwrite the mbr I installed Mepis, including its boot loader on hdb1 and I can access it using the floppy install SBMin'st. The annoying part is that when I am in Mepis it does see the Suse partitions on hda.
Any attempt to write a line in the fstab file is greeted with an error message when I try to load the hdb1 partition.
I have got my regular /home partition on a seperate drive with 1 partition.
All the other distros I experiment with try to mount it as /dev/hdb1. Changing fstab to mount it as /dev/hdb works every time.
Thanks for all your help. With your prompting I have managed to resolve both problems. My /mnt directory was empty as in Suse the cdrom etc are in /media. So by creating a folder (hdb1) in /mnt and entering a line is fstab I resolve the file access problem. Towny71 entry for the boot menu.lst, amended slighty, has also helped to resolve accessing the Mepis from the Suse Grub loader.
