How to get from source code to object code

Postby alloydog » Thu Jun 16, 2005 1:22 pm

OK, I'm probaly showning my dumbness but...

I've unpacked a tarred file with drivers for Radeon graphics adapters.
All the files are either .c (source code) or .h (headers for the source code).

In X11R6/lib/(can't remember off the top of my head the full path), there are what seem to be the drivers for all the currently supported graphics adapters.
These end in .o

If this where make and configure come in?

As well as the .c and .h files, you should normally find README and/or INSTALL files. These will tell you what to do.

Not this time there wasn't!

However, I did eventually find the .o file, but then discovered the driver update only fixes a bug which I would not have noticed anyway (as I don't have a dual headed graphics adapter...)

well, i though that you would change some of the source code, and then like the basic installer, cd to directory and then run configure, then the rest of the functions?
