|
|
Hi all.
I've never run into a laptop so far that Knoppix won't start on until now.
- Knoppix 3.9
- Fujitsu N3511 (New)
commands: knoppix noscsi
How do I tell what's stopping the startup of Knoppix, it gets stuck on
autoconfiguring devices !
I've also tried : knoppix noscsi failsafe
Thank you. |

I would try things like NOACPI and PCI=BIOS. I can't find any data on running Linux on these, so I can't how compatible the BIOS is and the correct settings for it. _________________ Andrew Hutchings, Linux Jedi

For A-Wing.
Thanks however, doesn't the NOACPI option disable the battery monitoring and fan for the laptop when it gets too hot?

That should be run by the BIOS's own monitoring system and is usually just an override via ACPI, otherwise a bad Windows install would toast your lappy. _________________ Andrew Hutchings, Linux Jedi

A-Wing, would you recommend somewhere one can check the latest hardware compatability for my particular laptop ( Fujitsu N3511 ), using Knoppix 3.9 ?
Thanks a bunch.

Knoppix 3.9 still will not start, gets stuck on the 'autoconfigure devices'.
Laptop: Fujitsu Lifebook N3511
Knoppix xommands: NOACPI, PCI=BIOS, noscsi, failsafe
Does anyone have other ideas?
Thank you.

Try noapm as well, just in case that's what it's stalling on...
...or try failsafe on it's own (ie just enter "failsafe" at the boot prompt) _________________ Hope this helps,

Wow this is really frustrating... this is the first time in years I haven't been able to use knoppix as a startup CD.
OK, thank you all for your suggestions but still no success.
I've tried all of the hardware cheat codes to turn off the various detections, including 'failsafe' by itself and it still gets stuck at the "autoconfiguring hardware".
There are some error messages before the hardware detection...
"Modprobe failure: .......ko ......." This is not a directory
I've searched the knoppix forums to no avail.
Anyone with other ideas?
Thank you

Well finally got Knoppix 3.9 to boot.
For those experiencing the same difficultites booting as I am, try this...
knoppix nohwsetup
The Autoconfiguration of hardware is hanging endlessly and prevents booting unless I type the above.
I do not know how to diagnose the problem, how would one find what's causing a boot hang as this with knoppix 3.9?
Thank you

I hesitate to ask but have you tried the knoppix forums?

Thanks to all who helped here.
I had previously gone to search the Knoppix forums unsuccessfully.
If you are interested in the end of this problem, you can see it here at:

Problem Solved:
I tried another Knoppix based ( and arguably better ) distribution and all hardware is correctly recognized.
Distribution: Kanotix

Cheers.
