I am sick and tired of reading about Ubuntu when Fedora 9 is coming out with more innovations that make it a more superior OS. I want everyone in the UK and USA to know that Fedora 9 will be available in a few weeks. It is the natural extension of what was Red Hat Linux. It not only serves as the basis for RHEL but it is also a great OS for innovations to appear and improve. Please go to http://fedoraproject.org and learn more about it! You will thank me for it!

Is it available now? No? Maybe that's why we are reading so little about it, even in your posts. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |

Never really got on with RedHat branch distros.
Much prefer the slicker package management in the Debian branch. _________________ Bomb #20: "Let there be light" |

Red Hat have publicly stated that the consumer desktop holds no interest or viability for them - see the LXF post here.
Red Hat is only using Fedora as a testing and quality assurance program for RHEL, without actually paying the testing staff, so why would you want to use this product? Red Hat doesn't even formally support Fedora, so there is very little incentive to even consider using Fedora. The Red Hat Desktop Team stated this in the "What’s Going On With Red Hat Desktop Systems? An Update" press release on 16 April 2008 - only two weeks ago.

Sorry but I hate Fedora... very, very much!
You won't see me visiting their website again in my entire life. I too prefer deb rather than rpm based distros.
I know that there is alot of news about Ubuntu but thats because Ubuntu has is what the majority of people want. Ubuntu is very user friendly, has a huge community for support, fastest security updates, it mostly just works with everything in your pc and it has alot of software available for it.
why wouldn't people talk about it?? |

| While this topic has become more of a flame war. I have to say that I don't really like Fedora either. While I must say that the looks are much better then Ubuntu in my opinion, apt beats yum, and deb beats rpm all around. Also, while distros like Ubuntu include "restricted" drivers, Fedora does not. While that is livable if your on a wired connection if you are like me, you only have a wireless connection that is a card only supported by a proprietary driver (or so I have found). This means that even if I don't like Ubuntu I mostly have to use it because of its excellent hardware support. (or spend a few days patching my kernel or finding Windows drivers for NDIS wrapper....) |

| I'm not trying to start a flame war but just responding to an LXF competitor's self promotion by pushing an inferior product, as confirmed with the other postings. |

"an LXF competitor" might be stretching it a bit

It looks very similar to last month's issue, and the previous month's
Incidentally Mark, Ogg is not an audio codec, it is a container format that can contain various codecs, including Vorbis, Speex or FLAC for audio. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |

I'm on the same ship.. having tried dozens of distros over the years, the only ones that have truly 'Clicked' with me are the Debian based one.. I just prefer the way they work.
I tried 3 Fed's and they just seemed slow and clunky to me.
For me it's Debian, Ubuntu or Mint all the way. _________________ Cheerio, Super_Tux |
