I don't suppose anyone can remember when the current series of GIMP articles (basic/beginner ones) was started i.e. in which issue ????? _________________ "What the large print giveth, the small print taketh away". Tom Waits |

LXF38 (March 2003).
Which probably makes it the longest-running tutorial series ever _________________ Hope this helps,

There were also some good gimp articles in Linux Answers, but that wasn't really part of the series, so... _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

Thanks Nigel, I'd better start looking again then! (though I may have to visit the home of "Mr Backissue", as I suspect that I've lost a few on the way! Damn).

PHP hasn't missed an issue since it started in LXF30. "Longest-running tutorial series" is a trophy I hold dear to my heart
Of course, if you're talking about longest-running *good* tutorial series......
FYI: the vending machine in this hotel has drinks, snacks, and, mysteriously, iPods. I really want to know what happens when you order an iPod: does it get pushed forward and drop to the bottom like everything else? I'm keeping my eyes peeled for annoyed people listening to iPods with cracked LCD screens! |

And then you get one which doesn't quite get pushed out fully, so it doesn't drop down, and some lucky soul gets two iPods when he puts his money in!
It was bad enough with Twixes (Twixen?)...

Don't you always get two Twixes? _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

Hrm, good question. Is a 'Twix' two bars, or is each bar a standalone Twix? And so I thought, Wikipedia must have the answer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twix
Did we ever have Peanut Butter Twixes in the UK?

So a Twix is one bar? That makes sense, it's the same as for twins, from which the name is presumably derived. You do get individually wrapped, smaller bars in those selection packs.
I don't recall seeing the peanut butter ones, but wouldn't have bought one if I had. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

Hum? I seem to recall the peanut butter ones, but I think that was when I was in the Navy, and we used to get supplies from some weird and wonderful places (coarse pork sausages with paprika from Naples, smoked streaky bacon from Miami, Lemon fanta from Cyprus-10 years before it was available in UK. All rather "scrummy". I think the peanut butter twix was probably loaded in the US somewhere).
You SWINES! I'm bloody hungry now, I'll have to go and grab a bite (chocolate raisin, cinnamon and sugar sandwiches are looking favourite - yum yum! )

Sorry, Paul, I'd forgotten about PHP
I guess it's been running so long it seems more like a permanent section of the mag than a tutorial series |
