I've been reading all this interesting discussion. I didn't say anything because I hadn't anything useful to add.

I think that finally I'll buy a Dell mini 9... with Windows :-O

Why? Because it seems to be cheaper than the Linux version. Here are the prices:

The Ubuntu version is 269 eur. It has a 8 Gb disc and an integrated video card Intel 500.

The Windows version is only 50 eur more and it has a 16 Gb disc and the video card is an Intel 950, which seems to be more powerful than the 500.

Upgrading the Ubuntu one to 16 Gb costs 45 eur. For only 5 eur I get a better video card (and a Windows license).

I really hate to buy a Windows license. One of the points I like of the dell was that it uses Ubuntu. Anyway, is it difficult to install Ubuntu in one of these machines?

Shouldn't be hard. You could always run Unetbootin with the ISO image, or somehow make a USB disk with the Ubuntu installer on another computer and use the USB disk to bot from...
You can get the Windows license back, providing you clidk "I do not agree"!

Hi!

Finally I bought an Acer Aspire One. It was 250 eur with Linux, 1 Gb ram and 160 Gb of HD. I hope that it was a good deal.

In fact I'm using it right now. I can't believe that Linux could boot up so quickly. The user experience is quite good.Everything works out of the box, including flash, wifi, etc.

One of the minor factors I considered to buy it was the new series about the AAO in the LXF.

Thanks to all that have participated in this thread. It was really helpful.

The Acer Aspire One is a great little machine but is limited by the screen resolution and max RAM.
If you just want it for email and web browsing getting the SSD version is fine. For anything else then the HD versions are better. Upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 1.5GB and everything flies under any OS. Currently I'm on my AAO 110AW with Linpus Lite under XFCE and customised heavily. This unit is an 8GB SSD device with the RA<M upgraded to 1.5GB and is great.
It runs Fedora10 very well but you are cramped for disk space.

I also have a AAO150bB that has a 120GB HD,1.5GB RAM and runs OSX. Absolutely wonderful. No Windows rubbish and corruptions.

Hi!

Finally I bought the AAO with HD because I need the space tostore photos when I'm travelling.

Now I'm using the standard Linpus Lite installation with a few changes, like upgrading OOo, VLC or Firefox.

Now I'm thinking seriously on changing the distro to an Ubuntu Netbook Remix. The only things that prevent me to do it are the duration of the batteryy and the booting time. I like the fact that AAO boots quite fast.

Anyway, thanks for the offering.
