My Mandriva distro disks have installed fine, but the 'updates' disk does not operate.
The following is a typical flag:

Unable to add medium, errors reported:
unable to read rpm files from [mnt/cdrom]:
bad rpm /mnt/cdrom/main_updates/org_x11_doc_6.8.2-7.1.102mde.i586.rpm.updates failed no hdlist file failing for medium updates problem reading synthesis file of medium updates

I've tried accessing the file directly with no success.

Queries on the Mag. website have not been answered as yet.

Can you detail what you did when trying to add the updates disc?

I followed the magazine article exactly.

At the time I asked that, I didn't have a copy of the magazine, which is why I asked for details.
