Along the lines of the previous thread(s) where I mentioned what were then known as UMPCs or mini-laptops and are now known as NetBooks, I think we might have a thread about webpads based on Linux.
Here's one to start with.
And here's another.
The latter seems to be available in the US and Canada already and, as per the iPad and existing eBook readers, seems to be mostly a front-end for buying from a particular publisher.
The former, as it's intended to be rebadged, will probably end up being much the same.

You know, I sometimes think it's a good things that all these gadgets aren't available in the UK, otherwise, I'd be stone broke.

Ho hum, so it's an e-reader but it looks more like one hopes an e-reader would (and it runs Linux, though that's not mentioned in big letters any where on the site). Very pretty for a grayscale display.

Italy-based Ekoore is shipping a tablet PC that runs Ubuntu Linux or Windows on an Intel Atom N270. The Ekoore ET10TA10 offers a 10.2-inch, 1024 x 600 backlit touchscreen, as well as 1GB of RAM, flash expansion, a 160GB hard disk drive (HDD), and WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and USB connections, says Ekoore.

Amazing how much that looks just like a NetBook chassis with the top chopped off, I wonder if they are using common components (other than just the chipset, of course).

This one comes with Windows but Linux is an option, hardly a web pad really and rather a lot of money just to be able to read in the bath (yes, I know that not the only reason it's waterproof).

He'd need a bigger blender, I don't think it would fold as easily as an iPad.

Parenthetically, here's some good news for Bazza, he'll be able to use that iPad he's lusting over with Linux. Wink

Or, if he prefers, here's a more open device, though more of a multimedia pad really. Smile

This looks bad:

I don't have any lust after the iPad, not after I hear how locked down it is regarding HAVING to use iTunes. However, even I can see that for a touch pad to work, it needs to have no frame for your finger to knock around on. Sheesh Rolling Eyes

To be fair, you're not showing the whole thing, see here for a better look. The screen is probably recessed be avoid touching keys on the keyboard when it's folded up.
Still, it does look butt-ugly in it's pad form.
