Hi all...
City, Chester.
Shop, Jessops.
6 weeks ago my daughter purchased a Nikon D90, a lens,
a 4GB memory card, and case.
Paid in full I might add.
Anyhow the memory card failed.
As we were in Chester yesterday, Sunday 11 April 2010,
we decided to get it exchanged.
I was waiting in the car, I was waiting in the car, I was wa......
After about 20 minutes I was in pi$$ed off mode.
I found out that the shop manager was trying to get out of
swapping the card.
He was saying the marks made by plugging the card into
the camera had damaged the card and it was not guaranteed.
OOOH, RED RAG TO A BULL.
I went ballistic and stated in no uncertain terms, after him
telling me I kew nothing about electronics, that:-
"YOU have the option to either swap the card or I will take
the matter further, end of story; this item is NOT of
merchantable quality and I say once more; YOU have the option to either swap the card or I will take the matter further; end
of story!"
Do you know what?
Swapped very quickly and I was leaving within 5 minutes.
No one treats me like an arsehole where electronics is invloved. _________________ 73...

Good call. Those guys in Jessops chester are nobs. My wife's Ex husband stole a camera from them. We found it (he'd been staying with her dad - long story, don't go there) and returned it (we didn't want it to come back on her dad!) They not only failed to say thanks, but tried to make out we'd pinched it. |

Hi 1stupidfart...

No need to, I am human and suffer human frailties. ;oO
But it was close enough to "cry like a baby" so I ignored it.
So you were that ugly SOAB with the tattoo on his neck
syaing "cut here"?
Hmmm, words fail me... ;o} _________________ 73...

Had a similar experience a few years back with our local Dagenham Dustbin vendor.
We bought a "new" car (a 3 year old Fiesta). The first time we filled it up with petrol we discovered the tank was leaking (a cracked weld by the breather pipe).
Went back to the showroom and asked for it to be repaired. Conversation went something like this (after explaining the fault):-
"I'm afraid the fuel tank isn't covered on the warrenty, sir".
"What!"
"The warranty only covers mechanical failure, not fuel leaks".
"OK, if that's the way you want to play it, I reject the goods under the Sale of Goods Act as being not of merchantable quality and not fit for purpose, not to mention dangerous. Please arrange for a full refund".
"I'm sorry, we can't do that, sir".
"Fair enough. We'll let Trading Standards sort it out."
"Now don't be hasty".
"Right. Listen up. You sold me goods that contravene the Sale of Goods Act. You WILL either repair the car or offer a FULL refund. If you do not do so I WILL make a complaint to Trading Standards. Its up to you".
The upshot was that they did repair the car (well, they had no choice), but it always amazes me how often these people try it on. I suppose enough people aren't aware of their rights to make it worthwhile.
I tend to ask politely for a refund / repair / exchange and then, if refused, raise my voice sufficiently so that a large proportion of the shop can hear while I mention things like Trading Standards. Usually results in rapid compliance. _________________ Bomb #20: "Let there be light" |
