Time for another ULB, this time on a shoe-string budget. Aimed at students and others that don't have or want much to spend. Obviously, don't expect too much of it, but in general ordinary tasks can be performed comfortably, I reckon.
Barebone: Foxconn R10-S3 (Intel Atom 330) (945GC) € 104,90*
Memory: Kingston ValueRAM KVR533D2N4/2G (pdf!), 2 GB DDR2-533 (2048 MB) € 44,99*
Harddisk: Western Digital WD20EARS (2.000 GB) € 99,90*
Optical: Samsung SH-S223C (22 / 8 / 16 speed) € 20,99*
Monitor: LG E2240T-PN LED, 22 inch (54,6 cm) € 169,90*
Keyboard set:Trust Wireless Deskset (2,4 GHz (USB dongle)) € 21,99*
Total: € 462,67*
Note, this is in Euro, YMMV! The only thing I'd be worried about is the onboard graphics chip: Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Dunno if it's supported
So, what are your thoughts? |

The Intel GMA 950 graphics are supported.
My Kitchen PC has a mini ITX Atom board, (Based on unit reviewed in LXF115 Feb 2009) runs Ubuntu 10.4.
It uses less energy than the flat screen attached to it.
MiniITX.com has intel fanless dual-core atom boards from £59, cases from £30.
with a smaller HDD and screen, you could keep the total cost below £200. _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

You can't have a ULB on a budget, it has to be a CLB or, at best, ALB _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

Is that the KDE version of a Crappy Linux Box? _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

No, it's a Kitchen Linux Box (and it runs Gnome) _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

If it's a budget Linux box, it could be a BuLB.

The Ultimate Linux Box is the one that does exactly what you want, when you want for the least cost to your pocket and our environment
We are not all windows gamers with an irrational need to own all the bells and whistles in the world. I also prefer to use gas to heat my home, rather use gas to heat my home than my computer.
