Yes indeed. For a few months my dreams have come true. Six months ago though it was a very different story. The only option for download was 10.04, which had some problems including not mounting samba shares via Gnome. At this point they should have had 3 downloads, the previous LTS version, 9.04 and the "cutting edge" 10.04, which would become the new LTS now.

Tried twice to install to a kingston data Traveller (8Gig), first time took 3 hours, and took 30 minutes to get to the log in screen, so binned it. Next time it took 1 hour 5 minutes to install, and all seemed well, it even updated, but when I tried to flash it up from cold, it froze at the login screen.
Install from two live CD's from Ubuntu Home Site, think I will wait until Ubuntu User comes out, and see if they de an Extended Version of Maverick like the did with Lucid.
Until then (and maybe beyond) I will stay with Lucid, it has never let me down yet.

Been using 42... uhm... 101010 since monday a week ago. Apart from a serious n00b error of not separating the /usr from a 4GB / partition (although, I got 450-something GB for /home Very Happy

) I've got no problems.

My setup is a AM3 motherboard (built ATi videocard (disabled), sound, 10/100/1000MB network) nVidia 220 PCIe x16, 1*500GB EIDE, 1*1.5TB SATA, 24spin SATA DVD +-RW.

I have to say I'm highly impressed with Meerkat. Installed Wine from the repo and my two Redmond-games (UKTS and WoW) works perfectly "out of the box", the nVidia proprietory drivers are stable as anything, no flicker anywhere (AFAICS).

Only thing that annoys me, is that when I go through the software centre and don't click on "install" for a programme for two minutes or so, I have to reenter the password, even though I'm already processing other programmes to be installed.

But yeah... I like the Meerkat. I think it's a wonderful piece of an operating system. It even recognises my iPod Touch pretty much perfectly, and gtkPod now also supports my model as well. (although, I've not dared to try and sync the iPod to either RhytmBox nor gtkPod yet... I like my music and don't wanna lose it :lol)

So... apart from the annoying re-entering the password at the software centre every three minutes or so, it's good.

I'ld give it a 92% score.

It's sure to be a VERY close contender to the Redmond virus, and fresh converts (as long as they've got Wine installed) shouldn't have many problems other than the obvious "I've never done this before" things.

After several try's to install maverick to no avail, I decided to bite the bullet and try upgrade, after backing up as one does,
I went for it, surprise, surprise it works, but it was only last night, so have not had much chance to give it a good run out.

So so good, but I am not binning my extended version of Lucid, yet.

I've only had 10.10 for a few days but it seems very little is different to 10.04, maybe the bit of orange colour at the log in screen and desktop? Laughing

Normally the difference is palpable but I'm struggling on this one.

Installed it a few days ago alongside of 10.04 and had problems with Updates to 10.10 that left my 10.04 out of the boot menu and unable to boot it. Sorted it and am now a GRUB2 specialist Wink

10.10 seems ok but not much different from 10.04 so I'm playing around with it. One thing though...

No working realtime/rt kernel which I need for my Audio video stuff. Surprised

I wont be upgrading 10.04 just yet awhile.

Well I upgraded to 10.04 which broke several things, going one better to 10.10 fixed 'em Very Happy

I have given up on 10.10. Since the Beta till now it will not properly display on my laptop.

No matter whether I run 10.10 as a LIVE DVD or a full install it ends up the same. I have tried 32 bit and 64 bit versions, downloaded from the Ubuntu site also the LXF DVDs and each time the same result.

From top to bottom the screen clearly displays but on the left and right it only displays approx 1 inch in from either side.

So far nothing from Launchpad or the Ubuntu Forums.

I have not changed my system since I purchased it and all versions from 8.10 until 10.04 worked a treat so why wont 10.10 work? It is beyond me

I can only hope that next time round they get it right
