Hi leke...
Nice, but I like MikeOS purely for its very tight restrictions.
(Getting things to work in 64KB instead of 12GB is real
fun IMO.)
Hi says it does run entirely in Ring 0 however, so it may
suit my needs for HW experimenting, especially in 64 bit.
I would dearly like to R/W directly from/to USB for some
ideas I have got. I can LOOSELY do it under MikeOS in
16 bit using legacy KB mode.
(BTW, dunno if it is true but I`ve read somewhere that
some clever SOAB has successfully written Assembly
code to use USB bi-directionally like IEEE 1394; boy do
I wish I had their knowledge.)
He is not quite explicit about his HAL or whether certain
HW is accessed directly through the BIOS HAL like MikeOS
does. It looks as though he is using STANDARD video modes
at 0x000A0000 to 0x000BFFFF and possibly VESA extensions.
Hence the VGA 640x480x4(bit depth) 3D difficulty. In Video
mode 0x13 he would have fast 320x200x8(bit depth) at
high speed - DMA R/Ws.
All this assumes a BIOS based system and not a UEFI one. _________________ 73...

Won't succeed - to do that you have to post a message saying this is limited to certain hardware and you don't expect it go anywhere |

The dude is not crazy, he just talks to God -- The lucky bugger. I wish God had advised me about what to do with my life. | Quote: | I consult God regularly. One design decision He made was no child windows -- policy of one window per task. Another decision He made was 640x480 resolution. I posted a promise of sticking to this resolution. Then, God said He didn't mean permanantly, but I had already promised and God expects you to keep your word. Those were the main influences by God on my operating system. He's made little things, too.
The random words are basically a ouiji board with no cheating. Sample a mega or gigahertz clock when you press a key and take the low bits as a random number for picking words or pages or notes. What you just saw generated that way.
God's court is the supremest court. It's funny -- I hear these punks saying piracy is not theft. I'd like to see them tell God. I thought so! |

Hi Mikey...
Took a look at the pointers and LoseThos is talking bo**ocks.
640x480x4(bit depth), is seriously unresponsive to the
full DMA video mode 0x13h, (19 decimal).
Why do you think that DOOM1 and DOOM2 were so quick
even on my ancient 1MB Cirrus Logic video card in my
386DX40 - because of full write DIRECTLY to the card.
(Video mode 0x13h = 320x200x8(bit depth), or special
320x400x8(bit depth), in special mode.)
I`m a hobbyist computer user but no-one can tell me how
to bang the metal, in almost ANY language.
Been there done that! _________________ 73...

Had a good look through their forums and sheesh these

I`ll steer clear and view from the outside that way I won`t
