Do such things exist or do I have to get a new fancy smart phone?

Basically I have a palm tungsten e2 which i have had for a number of years, but the touchscreen has gone to pot, and trying to click on anything is very much hit and miss (more the miss)

So I'm looking for a new device that
  • Has a realllllly good calendar
  • Possilbly go on the internets (via wifi) and check my email

so all i need is an electronic diary really. The calendar on my palm is great and has a great layout.
if it was compatible with my ubuntu then that would be great.

I already have a phone and i would want to use the sim card from that rather than get tied into a contract for which i will have no use (i don't send a billion txts a day and make 25hrs of phone calls a day, and to be honest the main use for my phone at the moment is as an alarm clock :) ), which does let me on the internets, but isn't on a contract or anything so I wouldn't want to go in the internet lots using it.
For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Elseways, everyone would know where it was
