From another posting:
"SANE (Scanner access now easy - Dodgy Acronyms R Us)"
I like TWAIN (for printers & colour management)
- Technology Without An Interesting Name.
Not including the usual suspects, like recursive anacronyms, such as GNU (Gnu is Not Unix), WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) and so on, what other anacronyms are there which lead you to wonder if the person who thought it up had maybe sniffed a bit ot much printer toner...?

GNU Hurd:
"HURD" is an indirectly recursive acronym, standing for "HIRD of Unix-Replacing Daemons", where "HIRD" stands for "HURD of Interfaces Representing Depth".
Maybe if they spent their time coding rather than thinking up bizarre names, they'd have a working kernel now.
Ooh, harsh!

One place I worked many years ago had a computer that was a clone of a Data General Nova (told you it was a long time ago !). I forget what the official name was, but it was always known as a RON (for Rip-Off Nova)

TINA is what we codenamed the development version of this site, although we called it:
Tina Is Not an Acronym
for the full recursive effect |

It must depend on whether you prefer logical paradoxes or mere recursion.

Just thought of an old one - there was a lot of discussion about what the NT stood for in Windows NT, and the most plausible reason was that it was trying to be one better than VMS (another OS). They just incremented all the letters by one: VMS -> WNT. Not really an acronym as such, but vaguely on topic... _________________ I'm not a spammer - honest! |

I used to ework for an electronices company, years ago, and they codenamed the accessories for their audio spectrum analysers LGB 1, LGB2, etc.
They were encased in grey RS boxes....Little Grey Box sad, really. _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

Handy way to remember pass-words though (grin).
