Hi nelz...

Yes.

What has that got to do with encrypting my /home when everything on it
is in the Public Domain/Public Sites anyhow?

As my Email addy is so well known why protect it?

I'll lay odds on NO-ONE on here will find my extremely private addy,
not even the spammers so far, and I have had it for nearly 5 years.

And my other ancient ompuserve addy is Public Domain too!
That has gotta be 20 years old now.

Go to AMINET and dl some of my old stuff to find it.
This never gets hit either...

Oh yes, but not using wisecracker@tesco.net on THIS machine;
and this gets used 99% of the time.

Received is immaterial as sensitive data is not on this machine anyhow
and certainly not using the above addy.

I always use Tesco's web interface anyhow for the above addy...
So it's hardly a secure system by definition.

You still haven't answered why I need to encrypt my /home directory
tree......

Maybe you don't, maybe you are one of the very few people that genuinely have nothing of any value on their hard drive. After all, you do run Windows without a virus checker Shocked

I know I wouldn't take that risk, or cripple my use of the computer by keeping nothing of a private nature on it. I also encrypt /home on my desktop, and my backups of course.

And I no longer run Windows, but PCLinuxOS 2009 and Debian 6.0.0

Explain how my computer is crippled?
When was the last time that the deeds to your property was on computer?

The computer is not crippled, but my use of it would be if I were to ensure that absolutely nothing of a private or personal nature appeared on it. I wouldn't be able to answer this because the hard drive has my login details for this site,and I certainly wouldn't be able to use email.
