Hi all,
I just installed the centOS distro from this months mag and it doesnt like my onboard soundcard. Can anyone recommend something that will work (5.1) and cost £50 or less?
Cheers, Bill. |

Creative Sound Blaster Live! is the minimum soundcard I recommend for most distros - they are very cheap these days. The Audigy cards are also starting to come down in price. I know other cards work but I've never had any hassles (except when I've broken it ) with Creative sound cards. |

I'll second that Creatives just work
I have a Nvidia mobo with sound card that some distros can handle but since disabling it and putting in a SoundBlaster I have never had a problem.

I've been using an Audigy for years, no problems, but what is your onboard sound? I've got a bog standard VIA thingy onboard on a KM266 based board, works ok too. _________________ I think, therefore I compile |

You don't say what your soundcard is.
My laptop has some obsucre chipset, which several disributions did not recognise. As it was labeled Sound Balster 16 compatible, I just configured things for that and it worked. |

im gonna jump in here
im using on board sound ac97 and i use teamspeak and ut2004 now i know going by this that teamspeak uses the only play back device so no sound in any games while teamspeak is on i have tryed many times to follow that tutorial but no joy every time so if i keep my on board sound for teamspeak is it possible to use my soundblaster for games (in afect have two play back devices) _________________ irc.ixl2.org |

if it is possible to get both to use esound as output you should be able to use both at the same time. _________________ Andrew Hutchings, Linux Jedi
