I run quite a few distros at any one time and I am afraid I just go along with whatever the default is. So I quite happily use Gnome, KDE, Xfce and LXDE.

Just goes to show how terribly undiscerning I must be.

How can anyone smart enough to be using Linux and who is a LXF Regular be regarded as undiscerning? I would prefer to think that you like to experience all of the variety and choice that Linux offers.

Wyliecoyoteuk,

Please don't mention Office 2007, my work is currently "upgrading" its systems from Office 2000 on XP Pro to Orifice 2007 on Windows Vista. And we will be stuck with that junk for at least 3 years - probably more.

You have my sympathies, at TAFE we've just changed to Office 2007 (at least we stayed with Windows XP Pro) and so all of the IT teachers are now supposed to be instant experts on Office 2007 with absolutely no official training. Teachers are using very colourful language as they modify lessons to suite Office 2007.

Just recently had to "upgrade" to that pile of <expletive> Now it takes me ages just to find the right menu item do do something!

At least OOo was able to open .docx files that Office 2003 users can't (without an additional piece of software)

Its either gnome for KDE for me. I've tried the others and they work well but never float my boat.

I think he's waving his cutlass about and shouting a lot because he's suffering from coffee deprivation.

He really should be careful what he does with that weapon. Looks as though he's cut his leg off already.

It took me 15 minutes to work out how to print the first time I used Office 2007. I was really embarrassed as I mentioned it to a group of IT teachers, until the only other two teachers to try Office 2007 confessed it took them 15 minutes as well Laughing Don't even mention how stuffed up mail merge is now, or that the Chart Wizard has been totally removed from Excel Confused

Ollie you are not making me feel any better.

Surely someone has something good to say about Office 2007, even if they have to lie their head off.

Nope. It took 27 superusers 1 hour to create, save and print a Word document. I eventually allowed them to work together. I arranged a workshop to get a feel of what kind of training bill we'd face and invited the more tech savvied staff to have a go. They never made it past the Excel sheet.

Yeah, Office 2007 is the best advertising available for OpenOffice.org v3. They just need to really work on the icon set for OpenOffice.org, they still look like they were created in 1995 so people don't see the applications as 21st Century products.

I like gnome and openbox best.

Gnome because it just works!
Openbox because it runs really fast on my 8 year old laptop!

I do like Xfce a little bit though Very Happy
