Well I never! Here is a weird halfway house situation.
I've been using Linux on my home PC for a few year now and my fav brew is a Starbucks Soy Caramel Mac. Today there was an offer on the Starbucks' card. If you register on the website, load and use the card (often) then you'd get you free beverage customisation as a reward. You'd also get a beverage voucher for registering. So I went for it.
By chance it was a busy day so no slacking. Yup Windoze at work. Never mind, I'll do it at home. I just attempted to register and I was surprised that Ubuntu & FireFox combo would not work. So I login to work and hop fire up FireFox and what do you know... it works? Both the Ubuntu and Windows version are the latest (FireFox was upgraded on Ubuntu today).
So what gives? Do we boycott or protest?
To add insult to injury, the darn card won't even register. Didn't matter if I used FF or IE.

I've just emailed them with:

I tried to register a card on your website and it told me that my browser (firefox) is not supported. It suggested that I use IE 5.0 or higher or Netscape Navigator.

Bearing in mind that Firefox is now used by more people globally than any other browser (including ALL the versions of Internet Explorer combined), can we expect this situation to be remedied?

I use a linux operating system, and as such am not able (even if I was willing) to use IE.

Please could you fix this so I can register for your card.

Many Thanks

Not sure on the accuracy of the data, but should make a point.

I just love the way it pops up the message Header: Browser Error.
Funny that, my FF browser works well on every other site.

Well, there is a way. Install the Firefox addon User Agent Switcher. Works a treat if you select 'Internet Explorer 7 (Windows Vista)', but not if you select Opera.

Out of interest I tried with Konqueror (browser error) and with Safari in MacOS (it was happy with that).

I should think the truth is that they're not deliberately discriminating against the large Firefox using section of the browsing community, rather that Starbucks outsourced their webpage administration to people who are too lazy and ignorant to know better, or who hadn't been drinking enough coffee.

It looks like on XP and FireFox the Register button does not work. On IE7 with XP I cannot even connect to the site. Do note I'm using the .co.uk.

Had a response to my email from starbucks today:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Starbucks Coffee Company.

We appreciate our customers taking the time to share their experiences using their Starbucks card.

I am sorry for any disappointment caused by our website. We were experiencing access problems for Mac users and those not using Internet Explorer, Firefox or Netscape. These problems have been resolved by our IT department. If you are still experiencing difficulties registering your Starbucks Card, please call the Starbucks Card customer care team on 0845 270 3310. The only functionality you will be unable to access when registering by this method are details of your spending history, though we will be happy to assist you with this by telephone. You can continue to receive emails about special offers and your balance is displayed on the receipt you will receive after each Starbucks Card transaction.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your comments on the new Starbucks Card and I hope you will enjoy using it.

Yours sincerely
