Hi All,
I am brand new to Linux, I mean brand new!
just tried Ubuntu 9.10 live disc on my laptop
I love it!,But
I can't connect to my wireless network with my hawking usb adapter
PLEASE Help so I can start enjoying Linux!
Remember, I am brand new and am use to running Windows XP Pro
Thanks for any help or ideas

You may have better success after installing to hard drive. There are three supported Hawking products HWU54G, HWU8DD & HWL2. Is the wireless USB connection your only method of connecting to the Internet or can you use a wired connection as well during installation?

I only have the wireless connection
Is there a list somewhere of supported adapters?
I know I have another type somewhere around here
that might be supported.
also does it matter for 64 bit?
My rig is a quad core, 8 gigs of ram, like to go 64bit
Actually I run Solidworks and AutoCad and have used virtualbox before, will deal with that situation after I am up and running
I love the Linux world!!!How much would Microsoft charge me for the answer???????

Look at http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Devices/USB for devices that should be supported in the kernel. In some cases 64-bit can be a problem with wireless drivers. However, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit on my laptop over a wireless WPA2-PSK to write this and most of my posts, so it is definitely possible.

I'm in Australia but I believe that The Linux Emporium are quite useful in the UK.

Have you tried installing to the hard drive? Dual booting is always worthwhile when first learning Linux.

I am in the Chicago area in USA
I am clearing off an old hard drive so I can dual boot
This way I can play around and learn Linux and still have my CAD rig running on the other drive with XP 64 Pro
One thing at a time, I just want to have a good time and learn some new stuff, this forum is great, I'm sure you will see my name on here quite often
I will check out the link you sent
